Mobiles of Hendrik de Kanter are kinetic sculptures for the electronic age. Called "Macro Molecules" or "Mini Universes", their complex movements are designed to visually entertain and to accentuate the beauty of space. The principle of gimbled assembly was developed by the Italian Mathematician G. Cardano. ( 1501 - 1576 ). The mobile shown has an outside diameter of 51 inches and is executed in polished aluminum. The electric motor rotates the mobile one revolution every 150 seconds. Each revolution causes the eccentrically mounted rings to tumble. The choice of materials their color, and especially the size of these motorized sculptures is limited only by the amount of space available for their display.
