Hendrik de Kanter was born in the Netherlands. Among his family were many fine artist, as well as patrons of the arts. He acquired a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and immigrated to the United States. He continued his studies at Stanford University and received his M.S. from USC.

As an Advance Design Engineer for Douglas Missiles and Space Systems, his projects included the Apollo Moon Landing, Lunar Surface Operations, and the design of a Mini Christmas Tree for Col. Borman's December circumlunar flight.

He has lectured at USC on the broader aspects of " Man in Space".

Inspired by the great innovators of space design on Earth, he built the first Geodesic Dome residence in the Hollywood Hills. He generated various friendships, among them, R. Buckminster Fuller, Charles Eames, Arthur Gallion and Richard J. Neutra.

He is the founder of DKA Corporation which designs and builds equipment which manufactures diodes, fuses and reed switches. This equipment is presently used worldwide in the US, Europe, China and Japan.

His creative use of space resulted in the design of mobiles, and considering life a matter of balance, acquired the art of walking the high wire, painting and composing for the piano.
